Minimum Tank Size: 125 gallons
The Powder Brown Tang, also referred to as the Powder Brown Surgeonfish, Japan Surgeonfish, and White-faced Surgeonfish, boasts an elegant appearance with its brown body accentuated by a striking white mark on the cheek between the eyes and mouth. Its pectoral, anal, and dorsal fins feature a rich dark brown color with light blue highlights at the tips, while the dorsal fin displays an eye-catching orange stripe. The tail is adorned in a beautiful blue hue with a vertical yellow bar. Adding to its allure, the Powder Brown Tang exhibits yellow striping along its body, running against the anal and dorsal fins, creating a captivating wishbone-shaped marking.
To accommodate the active nature of this species, a spacious 125-gallon or larger aquarium is essential, providing ample room for swimming. It is advisable to house only one Powder Brown Tang per tank to prevent potential aggression issues. Caution should be exercised when considering tankmates, especially other Tangs or Surgeonfish, as similar-shaped species can display aggression towards each other.
While Tangs are omnivores and will consume meaty foods along with other fish in the aquarium, prioritizing a diet rich in marine-based seaweed and algae is essential for their overall well-being. This dietary emphasis strengthens their immune system, reduces aggression, and enhances their overall health. To achieve this, offering dried seaweed tied to a rock or using a veggie clip and feeding at least three times per week are recommended. Products like Sea Veggies, Seaweed Salad, and Ocean Nutrition are ideal choices as they are easy to use and provide the necessary nutritional benefits for these exquisite fish.
